Sunset Fishing

Sunset Fishing

Huntington Beach, Ca.

I was shooting some family portraits on the beach this afternoon and when we wrapped up I couldn't resist turning back for this shot.  It was a warm and hazy day which made for a great show at sunset.

Still Waters

Desolation Wilderness, Ca.

This unnamed lake in Desolation Valley had a lot of this green grass growing around it's Eastern shore.  I couldn't find a great composition for it but couldn't resit shooting it either.  This is an hour or so after sunrise.  Jack's Peak is in the background.  Am pretty fond of the clouds juxtaposed against the pattern of the water and grass.

Desolate Mirror

Desolate Mirror

Desolation Wilderness, Ca.

Desolation Valley is literally covered in lakes that are so small and shallow (and on a calm day) that they have phenomenal reflections.  This is the perfect example.  This is an unnamed lake at sunrise with Jack's Peak in the background.  I used Photomatix's Exposure Fusion to blend two images then took it into Photoshop for the finishing touches.

Wild West Magazine Publication!

One of my Havasu Falls images (from years back) was published in the August 2012 issue of Wild West Magazine (above).  Here is the original image.  The image is featured on the inside of the back cover in the Go West! section - a piece about "then and now".

This issue is interesting.  On the cover is a genuine tintype photograph of Billy the Kid circa 1879 that sold at a recent auction for 2.3 Million.  There's a feature on Billy the Kid inside too.  Check it out!

Before the Magic

Before the Magic

Channel Lake, Desolation Wilderness, Ca.

This is Channel Lake about 30 minutes before sunset (magic).  See the sunset version here.  The late afternoon heat drove in these clouds and I couldn't even wait till sunset to shoot them.  It was easily into the mid 70's (maybe close to 80) most of the day in Desolation Valley.  Not ideal backpacking weather but definitely nice for photography!

Desolation Sunburst

Desolation Sunburst

Desolation Wilderness, Ca.

This is a sunrise the day after a phenomenal sunset.  I got lucky to have a cloud layer hovering on the horizon exactly where the sun was rising.  The clouds broke up enough to get this sunburst through the trees.  What really caught my eye was the framing with the clouds...and of course the reflection!

Desolate Fire

Desolate Fire

Desolation Wilderness, Ca.

Ok maybe I'm getting carried away with "Desolate" in my titles...but it sounds so cool haha!  This is yet another sunset shot from the unnamed lake we camped near in Desolation Valley in July.  I wanted to do a fairly tight composition to focus on the "fire like" appearance of the scene - in the sky as well as the reflection.  Make sure to view large on black - the cloud swirls along the horizon were really something else.
