According to Second Harvest - In Orange County, nearly half of public school kids rely on reduced or free school lunches for their major source of nutrition. That’s 211,179 kids who may well be going to bed hungry on weekends and during summer vacation—a 16% increase in the last decade. 1 in 4 children are at risk of hunger in Orange County.
Here's some of what happened today.
Katharine McPhee came out and sang a couple of songs for the kids
She got a little participation on this one...
A little dancing...
Then she did a little something special for the kids and they got to write a song together
After a little coaxing on what the song would be about someone shouted "love".
And so the lyric collaboration began...
Then put a little piano behind it and start singing...
And don't forget the autograph session. Katharine handed out one of her CD's to each child and signed it for them

Then it was on to lunch...
Katharine was kind enough to show me the food
The media had some interview time with Katharine
And then a little thank you card from all the children
